Hello Castleford

That Girl has been delighted to work with Wakefield Council’s markets’ team in Castleford this summer on a range of events to promote its wonderful indoor event space within Castleford market. The town is bucking the current trend hosting a vibrant and bustling market both indoors and out and That Girl was pleased to work with the team to bring together a summer of activities across the holidays to entice people into the market and town centre. Funded through the UK SPF fund, the council was able to provide a variety of free events throughout the children’s holidays.

Kicking off with a Circus themed event on 20th July as the children finished school, visitors tried their hands at juggling and stilt walking along with photo ops and bubbles.

This was followed up on the 10th August with a ‘Become a Pirate for the day’ event which attracted a wonderful family crowd that enjoyed dressing up, making parrots, eye patches and spy glasses, getting a genuine fake pirate ‘scar’ and earning their private pirates licence. Even the market traders joined in the fun!

Other events were already in the calendar but the dinosaurs came to town on 17th August bringing all kinds of fun with a certain raptor enjoying spraying visitors with water when they least expected it! Fossil digging and meeting the baby dinos also proved popular with the crowds who attended.

As the school holidays came to an end, a huge dome landed in Castleford. ‘Seeing Stars’ allowed visitors to see the cosmos within the dome as well as experience the International space station and space roller coaster through the wonders of VR headsets. Dressing up as an astronaut, making straw rockets and vegetable aliens all added to the atmosphere whilst some out of this world visitors from ‘star wars’ also made an appearance for selfies.

With a mid-week visit from the Castleford Tigers rugby team to play giant games and join in with craft activities, this summer has been a busy one for the market. We’ll be continuing into autumn and winter so look forward to sharing more with you soon.
