Food Fest hits the spot again

The lovely John Torode out and about with me meeting visitors and traders

Well, what a wonderful day we had for this year’s North Notts Food Fest in Worksop! Organised on behalf of North Notts BID, the sun shone, the crowds came out and we welcomed the lovely celebrity chef, John Torode, as our special guest. Joining him were festival favourites Teresa Bovey, home economist extraordinaire, our wonderful compare, Johnny, ‘the Snobby Butcher’, Pusztai, along with local baker, Peter Whitlam from the Vintage Bakery in Retford; Diana Kaponas from the fabulous Cafe Neo in Worksop; Justin Alpin from Smokehouse UK; and master chocolatier Ben Ellis who all delivered hugely popular free demonstrations throughout the day.

Youngsters were kept entertained all day thanks to the skills of Ann-Marie and her team from Get Cooking as well as Punch and Judy shows and various street entertainers who kept the visitors amused. The iconic Carroll Brothers vintage chip van made a welcome return this year thanks to the volunteers from the Leicester Museum where it lives, providing traditionally cooked chips from its coal fired stove.

This is the sixth year ‘that girl’ has been proud to organise the event with the fabulous team from North Notts BID. With an aim to get people back into the town centre, this free to attend event certainly hit the spot. With the support of some fantastic traders who formed the street market – we couldn’t have a food festival without them – we look forward to doing it all gain next year!
