In a busy few weeks, the beginning of October saw That Girl organise the first ‘Made in Sleaford’ event on behalf of North Kesteven District Council. The event, which attracted over 3,600 visitors and school children across two days, celebrated anything and everything that has ever been designed, manufactured or otherwise ‘made’ in this bustling Lincolnshire town.
From world class violins to world record-breaking agricultural machinery, the exhibition held in the National Centre for Craft and Design and outside within a marquee and in Navigation Yard saw local people see things they never realised were created on their doorsteps. Sleaford boasts and incredible array of fantastic things which are produced in the town and children and locals alike were treated to a tour around the town of places of special interest including the former Bass Maltings and a Roman Mint site. Who also knew that carbon fibre manufactured in the town featured in the cockpit of the World land speed record attempt car, Bloodhound SSC, or that the UK’s largest manufacturer of agricultural trailers were based in the town. Even some vintage caravans that were formally made in Sleaford made a guest appearance.
A specially commissioned ‘Sleaford Sausage’ made by local butcher’s Browns and on offer for visitors to taste on the Saturday, was also a sell out as were the biscuits supplied by a Sweet Vienna, a local bakery, for children to decorate.
A business networking and drinks reception held on Friday evening attracted over 80 people who were fascinated to listen to former World land speed record holder, Richard Noble OBE.

NKDC are heralding the event to be a great success and we look forward to being involved in any future plans for another.
